Frederick House Memories of
Sandy O'Dwyer (Frankenberg)
Oh My!
I just now looked up Todd on Facebook and found the very sad notice of his passing. I am shocked and saddened to hear of his passing.
I do want to share some of my fabulous memories of living with Todd, and 3 other men (Mike, Bil, and I can't remember the pharmacist's name for the life of me!) (it was Bob Hage) in the Frederick House. It has been so long ago. I was the 1 lone young woman that rented Todd's 3rd floor space for a couple of years back in '78-'79? the time frame gets kinda foggy these days.
Those days are some of my best memories of my young developing adulthood.
*The annual chicken barbeque - wow what a huge gathering of the biggest diverse group of people. Todd prepped for that party for weeks! I don't know how many chickens he had barbequed, but I do slightly remember going thru 5 1/2 barrels of beer.
*Todd's active politics with NORML. wouldn't he be surprised by the change in that climate these days!!
*G-graphics in the basement. coming home on Fridays after work and sharing a St Pauli Girl with the guys to start our weekend. Every one of my friends that came to visit me got a G-graphics bong to take home.
*Brady street days!!!!! and Todd selling his wares.
*the constant band music coming up from the 1st floor front room; hearing the same Billy Joel tunes night after night - sometimes making it thru the entire tune! taking a few road trips out to Waukesha to see them play at the Sunset Bowling Alley.
Whenever I came home, whatever time of day or night, there was always someone around to have a beer with or smoke a J.
Todd would always let me use his bike for rides to the lakefront. One of those bike rides ended badly. I hit the front brakes by accident in the front yard as I was getting home and flipped over the handle bars and dislocated my elbow. His bike was never the same. Todd came home to the fire department in his front lawn attending to me. He never did let me borrow his bike again. :)
*Alphie!!! I would keep him company while Todd and the guys were out on their gigs. He was such a gentle and friendly dog. He would always come up by me when I was home and Todd wasn't. It broke Todd's heart when he died.
Todd always had time to visit and talk and drink and smoke and really enjoy some time with me. He was like a big brother that tried to look out for me. I was 19 and loving life then.
I am so sorry that I lost touch when I moved on. Todd truly was a gentle, loving soul that I am sure will be truly missed by those that did not loose touch.
The time I spent living in the Frederick House are truly some of my best memories of great times with great people
Love and peace,
Sandy O'Dwyer (Frankenberg back in those days!)
